New Challenges, Timely Knowledge
At a time when the rapid development of artificial intelligence, automation, and digital technologies brings new ethical and regulatory questions, Stanford is bringing together experts for a seven-week program of knowledge and experience exchange. The course combines lectures by leading professors with discussions, work in small groups, and meetings with prominent figures in contemporary technology. Special attention is given to current topics such as online abuse, digital surveillance, labor and economic inequality, the spread of disinformation, and legal challenges.
Over seven thematic units, participants will analyze the lenses through which technological change and individual responsibility should be viewed—specifically, the extent to which the profession can shape the ethical trajectory of the digital future.

Access to Top Lecturers and a Global Community
The program gathers participants from a variety of professional backgrounds: from product managers, engineers, and marketers to academics, civil servants, NGO activists, and journalists. Anyone interested can apply, regardless of prior affiliation with Stanford.
Through live online lectures and mentored group discussions, participants will have the opportunity to speak directly with academics and pioneers of the technology industry, past speakers include Frances Haugen, Reid Hoffman, Jacinda Ardern, Meredith Whittaker, and others.
Upon completion of the course, all participants receive an official certificate from the Stanford Engineering Center for Global and Online Education and are invited to join an international alumni network aimed at spreading knowledge and strengthening a culture of ethical leadership.
For those unable to participate live, an asynchronous version of the course is also available, which includes only recordings of lectures and assignments, but does not allow full interaction or the issuance of a final certificate.

Tradition and Partnerships
The program builds on the experience of the CS182 course, developed at Stanford six years ago, as well as the book “System Error: Where Big Tech Went Wrong and How We Can Reboot.” The new phase is being carried out in cooperation with the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society, with the support of Frank McCourt and the Project Liberty Institute.
