Smarter Problem-Solving with a “Private Chain of Thought”

The o3 Mini introduces a unique “private chain of thought” mechanism, enabling it to think through problems internally before responding. This approach is expected to improve accuracy, especially in areas like coding, scientific research, and advanced mathematics.

In early testing, the larger o3 model achieved 96.7% accuracy on the American Invitational Mathematics Exam, solving nearly all questions correctly, while also outperforming previous models in coding tasks.

A Careful and Collaborative Rollout

OpenAI has been cautious with this release, running extensive internal testing and inviting external researchers to evaluate the model’s performance and safety. The o3 Mini will launch first, followed by the full-scale o3 model later in 2025.
