The Knight Center is launching two free online courses for journalists this month, focusing on climate crisis reporting and artificial intelligence tools in newsrooms.
Both programs are self-paced with live instructor sessions and offer free certificates upon completion.

Climate Journalism Course Addresses COP30 and Disinformation
The first course, running October 13–26, prepares journalists to cover climate change and the upcoming COP30 conference with accuracy and local impact.
Instructors Daniel Nardin, Larissa Noguchi, and Signe Iversen will lead the two-week program, teaching participants to communicate climate science clearly, identify greenwashing and disinformation, and incorporate local voices into their reporting.
The course emphasizes strengthening journalistic credibility through fact-checking and primary source verification.

Google AI Tools Course Focuses on Editorial Efficiency
The second course, spanning four weeks from October 20 to November 16, explores how artificial intelligence can transform journalistic workflows.
Mariana Alvarado, Cecilia Bazán, and Carolina Potocar will guide participants through Google’s AI tools, including Gemini, NotebookLM, and Pinpoint.
Journalists will learn to distinguish between AI and generative AI, use chatbots for research and story development, analyze audience engagement with Google tools, and create content such as audio summaries, timelines, and mind maps.
The program emphasizes efficient collaboration and responsible AI use in journalism.
