Q & A

Q. You are well-known for your extensive experience in the field of artificial intelligence, with significant contributions across various industries. Can you tell us more about your journey and what inspired you to dedicate yourself to this field?

A. I have been in the field of technology for over 3 decades but have been heavily involved in AI since 2017 as the first GCC national to embark heavily on the initiation of AI in Bahrain and the GCC. I published my first book on AI titled ‘AI: The Future of Humanity’ in 2017.

Q.  How has your extensive experience in aviation, hospitality, and telecommunications influenced your approach to AI implementation?

A. I started talking about Cloud Computing in 2010 and built the first Aviation Cloud during that year, which was also the first hybrid in the Middle East. This motivated me to further research into intelligent phenomena such as AI.

Q. You made a pioneering work in the development of the first Big Data project with Arabic sentiment analysis? What were the main challenges and successes?

A. This project was the first Big Data initiative with Arabic sentiment analysis in the world. The challenges of performing sentiment analysis on social media and using the Arabic language were time-consuming and required different skills.

Q. You have implemented the first Hybrid Cloud in the aviation industry. How has this innovation transformed aviation operations and customer experiences?

A. The cost of local infrastructure and Data Centre processing and storage were very high, plus there was frequent maintenance and refreshment needed. We managed to reduce the cost by 40% and increase efficiency and reliability by introducing the first Cloud in the aviation sector.

Q. Which area related to AI do you find most interesting, and which project are you most proud of?

A. Currently, Generative AI is by far the most interesting, but I am also proud of implementations in AI predictions and computer vision.

Q. As a leader in obtaining multiple ISO certifications, how do these standards contribute to the reliability and security of AI systems?

A. They are very important as they ensure continuous adherence to ethics, risk management, and coding standards to develop reliable AI solutions.

Q. How do you address the ethical considerations and potential biases that come with implementing AI technologies?

A. It is important to ensure bias-free data before starting a design, then select algorithms that do not result in bias or unethical actions when the data is trained.

Q. Can you provide examples of how AI has been used to improve business intelligence and decision-making in the industries you’ve worked in?

A. There are several examples in the oil, aluminum, and shipping industries, as well as in areas of healthcare and auditing.
